If you are an enthusiastic and committed individual who would like to use your skills to help us support some of the most vulnerable people in our community then we would love to hear from you!
Volunteer Roles
Our volunteer roles aim to provide additional support to our clients who are currently completing, or previously completed, a programme of Domestic Abuse work within one of our Next Chapter teams.
We would love to hear from you if:
- You are passionate about supporting people affected by Domestic Abuse
- You want to make areal difference in your local community
- You’re a good listener, empathetic, and non-judgemental
- You have at least 1 hour to spare each week
- You are local to Essex, or willing to travel for meetings and training
- You have been without Domestic Abuse support for at least 24 months
No previous experience is necessary —full training and ongoing support will be provided.
By volunteering for Next Chapter, you have the opportunity to:
- Make a real difference in the lives of individuals and families affected by abuse
- Support survivors by offering empathy, practical assistance, and a safe space
- Raise awareness about domestic abuse and help challenge harmful stereotypes
- Gain valuable skills in crisis intervention, communication, advocacy, and safeguarding
- Work alongside professionals and other dedicated volunteers in a meaningful cause
- Build your understanding of the complex dynamics of abuse and the systems that support survivors
- Be part of a movement working to end domestic abuse and promote healthy, respectful relationships

We currently have volunteer vacancies for:
Help maintain safe, functional spaces by carrying out essential repairs, cleaning, and general upkeep at the charity’s refuge or office locations.
Provide translation and interpretation services for non-English speaking survivors, ensuring they have access to support and resources without language barriers.
Assist in raising awareness of our vital work by supporting events, manning stalls, and engaging the community to further the charity’s mission.
Lead support groups for individuals who have experienced abuse from a family member, helping them to process trauma and move towards recovery.
Facilitate support groups for male survivors of domestic abuse, providing a safe and empowering space for them to share experiences and heal.
Support group facilitators to create an engaging and supportive group activities for children and young people affected by domestic abuse.
Support group facilitators in running recovery programmes for adults, helping to create a safe environment where individuals can heal and build resilience.
Offer emotional and practical support to women and families residing in refuge, helping them access resources and feel safe during their recovery.
Assist survivors with everyday tasks such as completing forms, booking appointments, and accessing essential services to help them rebuild their lives.
Provide weekly phone support to survivors, empowering them to move forward with confidence and independence following their formal support programme.
